“Missing your IKEA meatball fix? We’ve created a recipe for you to recreate this delicious dish in the comfort of your own home #IKEAmeatballs,” they shared on Twitter.
In just a few steps, you’ll be serving up your own plate of Swedish meatballs and cream sauce.
Here’s the full ingredients and recipe, which will make for four servings.
Ingredients
To make 1 serving
- 500g beef mince
- 250g pork mince
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 glove of crushed garlic or a teaspoon of easy/lazy garlic
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons milk
- 40g butter
- 40g plain flour
- 150ml vegetable stock
- 150ml beef stock
- 150ml thick double cream
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
How to make your own IKEA style meatballs and cream sauce:
- For the meatballs, in a bowl, combine the beef and pork mince and add in the chopped onion, crushed garlic, breadcrumbs and egg. Mix well.
- Add in the milk and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Form the meat mixture into small balls and place in the fridge, covered, for at least 2 hours.
- When it comes time to cook, heat a little oil in a pan over a medium heat and brown the meatballs all over. You may have to do this in batches – don’t crowd the pan.
- Move the meatballs to an ovenproof dish and cook, covered with foil, at 180 degrees / 160 degrees fan for 30 minutes.
- To make your own Swedish cream sauce, melt the butter in a frying pan and whisk in the plain flour, stirring continuously for around 2 minutes until the flour has cooked through. Add in the vegetable and beef stock, continuing to stir, then add the cream, soy sauce and Dijon mustard.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow to thicken, stirring throughout.
- Serve the meatballs and sauce with mashed or boiled potatoes.
