The omelette is one of the easiest, quickest and most versatile meals there is – here’s how to master it.

You can whip up an omelette in a frying pan in a matter of minutes from just a handful of ingredients.

Easy to adapt to whatever ingredients you have to hand, omelettes make for a filling breakfast, quick lunch or even a full dinner.

The ingredients and recipe below will yield one medium sized omelette.


To make 1 serving

  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp butter
  • SeasoningSalt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, fresh parsley, basil, etc.
  • FillingsE.g. Ham, tomato, cheese, mushrooms, peppers, onion, etc.

How to make the perfect omelette

  1. In a bowl or jug, crack in the eggs and season with salt & pepper. You can also add other seasoning such as paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, fresh parsley, basil, etc.
  2. Melt a teaspoon of butter in a frying pan over a medium heat-low until it starts to bubble.
  3. Pour in the eggs and tilt the pan to spread the mixture evenly.
  4. Allow to cook undisturbed for about 30 seconds to a minute until it begins to set at the edges.
  5. With a spatula or spoon, make your way around the omelette lifting up the edges to allow uncooked egg to run underneath.
  6. Continue to cook until the centre begins to firm up then sprinkle with your desired fillings. Fillings can include cooked meats (e.g. ham or fried bacon), grated cheese and diced vegetables like tomato, mushrooms, peppers or onions.
  7. Cook for a further minute before gently folding in half with a spatula to form a semi-circle.
  8. Continue cooking over a low heat until the eggs are set and completely cooked through.
  9. Tip out or use a spatula to lift onto a plate to serve.
