A super easy and tasty student meal: Make your own cheesy butter sauce to serve with chicken and veg.

This creamy white sauce also goes well with turkey as well as ham and gammon.

For the veg, we uses broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, cabbage and carrots, but this recipe is great for using up whatever you may have around.

The recipe also goes great with a side of mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

To make 1 serving

  • Butter 3 tbsps
  • Milk 75 ml
  • Flour 3 tbsps
  • Grated cheeseOptional
  • Chicken breast 1
  • Veg (e.g. Cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, etc.)
  • Mash/PotatoesOptional

How to make Chicken & Veg In Creamy Butter Sauce!

  1. For the mash, use instant packet mix or boil some potatoes in the pan for 20 minutes!
  2. For the veg. Boil the pan on medium heat and add the cauliflower, carrots and broccoli (with a lid) and allow to cook for 10 minutes or until soft. Whilst this is cooking start the next step.
  3. First, heat the butter in the pan on a medium heat (3-4) and then add the milk.
  4. Sieve in the flour and keep stirring. Add more//less flour for a thicker/thinner sauce.
  5. Next add the grated cheese (can be left out if you wish), stir and then put a lid on it and allow to simmer.
  6. Cook your meet per pack instructions. Season well to taste.
  7. Once everything is done, add the chicken, veg and mash onto the plate. Give the sauce a stir and then smoother the food with the sauce! Yum.
