How to Cook Perfect Fish Fingers in an Air Fryer
Published
Whether they’re BirdsEye or Tesco’s own, cooking frozen fish fingers in an air fryer is a simple and quick way to enjoy a crispy, delicious meal.
Air frying offers a healthier alternative to traditional frying methods, reducing the amount of oil needed without compromising on taste or texture. Plus, it’s quicker than the grill or oven!
Here’s a straightforward guide to making perfect fish fingers using an air fryer.
Perfect Air Fryer Fish Fingers
- Preheat the Air Fryer! Start by preheating your air fryer to 200°C. If your air fryer doesn’t have a pre-heat function, simply add two minutes to the cooking time before adding the fish fingers.
- Place the frozen fish fingers in the air fryer basket. Be sure to spread them out in a single layer with some space between each fish finger. This allows the hot air to circulate freely around the fish fingers and results in in them getting lovely and crisp on all sides.
- Cooking Time: Cook the fish fingers for about 8-10 minutes from frozen. The exact time may vary depending on the thickness of the fish fingers and the specific model of your air fryer. If you have a fancy air fryer with a food thermometer, you’re looking for a temperature of at least 63°C on the inside.
- Once cooked, carefully remove the fish fingers from the air fryer basket and serve them immediately with your favourite accompaniments.
Tips for cooking
- Cook the fish fingers straight out of the box from frozen.
- Avoid overcrowding! Air needs to circulate around the fish fingers for them to cook evenly and become crispy.
- For the best results, shaking the basket or flipping the fish fingers halfway through cooking ensures they get evenly crispy on all sides.
- Depending on your air fryer model and the size of the fish fingers, you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly. Keep an eye on them, especially the first time you make them, to find the perfect timing.
