- Beef mince 400 g
- Chopped tomatoes
- CarrotsOptional
- PeppersOptional
- Onions
- Mixed herbs
- Grated cheese
- White pasta sauceOr make your own with milk, butter and plain flour
How to make simple and cheap lasagna:
- Start by prepping the veg: Peel and chop up the onion. Peel and finely dice the carrots and chop the peppers if using.
- In a large frying pan, fry the onion in a little oil over a medium-high heat until softened.
- Break up the mince and add in to the frying pan and fry until dark browned all over.
- Add in the tin of chopped tomatoes and other veg and mix well.
- Season with salt, pepper and mixed herbs to taste and allow to simmer for 15-20 minutes
- Now for the white sauce. You can buy a jar of this for a few pence in budget supermarkets or make your own from a few basic ingredients.
- To make your own white sauce, melt two big tablespoons of butter over a medium-low in a sauce pan and add in two tablespoons of flour and mix. Slowly pour in milk while stirring until you’ve a smooth and creamy sauce. You can add some grated cheese for a cheesy lasagne if you wish.
- Once both the red meat mix and white sauces are ready, you can make up the lasange in a baking dish.
- Start with a layer of meat and top with lasagna pasta sheets.
- Add more meat on top and add on some generous spoonfuls of the white sauce.
- Repeat!
- Pour the remaining white sauce alone over the top for the final layer.
- Finish with handfuls of grated cheese.
- Bake in the oven at 200 degrees for 30 or so minutes until the cheese has browned.
- Optionally, to finish with a crispy topping, grill the cooked lasagne for 5 or so extra minutes.
